What if I told you your gut has more nerve cells than your spinal cord? That’s not a random fact. It’s actually why bloating might not even be your biggest gut problem.
Welcome to Part 1 of Your Second Brain. I’m a nutritionist, and by the end of this, you’ll understand why I take gut health more seriously than almost anything else.
It’s More Than Digestion
Your gut isn’t just about digestion. It directly affects your mood, your immunity, and your energy. But most people only start thinking about it once something has already gone wrong, like bloating or discomfort that’s too hard to ignore. By that point, it’s usually been building for a while, quietly, in the background.

So how do you catch it before it gets to that point? Here’s what most people miss.
Signs People Miss
- Bloating after most meals, not just once in a while
- Irregular digestion, whether that’s constipation or the opposite, happening frequently
- Low energy despite feeling like you’re eating well
- Skin issues with no obvious cause
- Mood dips that seem to follow meals
If a few of this sound familiar, here’s exactly why it’s happening.
The Bigger Picture
Your gut talks to your brain constantly. Mood, energy, immunity, it’s all connected in ways most of us were never taught. And this was really just the surface. Follow along for Part 2 of Your Second Brain, because we’re going a lot deeper.

Why It Happens
Low fiber, low variety diets essentially starve your gut bacteria over time. Overusing antibiotics without rebuilding your gut flora afterward adds to the problem. And high stress genuinely disrupts digestion, because the gut brain link runs both ways. It’s not just your gut affecting your mood. Your mood affects your gut too.
What You Can Actually Do
Focus on variety over any single superfood, since different fibers feed different bacteria in your gut
Add more fiber rich foods like daal, whole grains, vegetables, and fruit with the skin left on
Include fermented foods. Dahi is an easy win, since it’s already part of most desi diets
If you want to go further, try kimchi or sauerkraut
